Fields of Green and Gold
It’s that time of year. The soybean fields transform from a deep forest green to yellow-gold. I love catching these fields as they transition from summer to autumn color, when you can see the entire rich range of colors. I also had some fun with long exposure in a few frames (approximately 1-second) where you’ll see elements frozen and other areas in blurred motion from the strong breeze today. Heritage Line and County Road 2 provided great vistas of this crop but Serpent Mounds Road, also provided the occasional sneak peek of Rice Lake.
The vertical image on the right is a stacked composite image to maximize overall image sharpness.
(Right) A one-second exposure was possible thanks to the built-in Live Neutral Density (Live ND) filter in my OM1 Mark II. Note the motion blur of the plants in certain areas.
The cornfields can't be ignored, either! Between the structured orderliness of the rows and the morning sidelight, I am compelled to make captures of this crop. Obscured by the elevation is Rice Lake. The hills in the distance are the south side of the lake.
The central image of the cornfield was also another experiment with focus stacking, using two images.
Wildlife is also preparing for the coming winter. The goldfinches were numerous among the wild asters and catnip that border the edge of the forest near our cottage.
