Sunrise on Rice Lake
For the first time in a while, I was up with the sun at the #fortressofModerateSolitude. And it was worth it.
Looking out our picture window around 6:15, I could see patches of rich pink through the trees, so I grabbed my gear and headed down to the beach.
Not only was I treated to some beautiful colour, but I noticed that the local heron was fishing off (what has become) the gull raft. I managed to capture several images, including one as he returned to the raft, breakfast in his bill.
One of the few wide shots I was able to capture without a dog splashing through the frame.
This image is actually a composite. One frame had better exposure and the other had a better, more recognizable pose from the heron. The fascinating part for me is that I was able to create this composite - complete with masking - without leaving my iPad. Using a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop on the iPad, I pulled the final image together.
